The first American sewing machines were manufactured in New Hartford, Connecticut. They revolutionized textile manufacturing. With increased productivity the cost of textiles went down and clothing became more accessible to the common person.
Do you remember when you first learned to sew? Who taught you? Was it your mother, grandmother, sister, aunt or possibly a local 4-H leader? Why did you want to learn to sew? What did you sew? Spend some time today hand sewing, doing needle work or reminiscing with family and friends about your favorite sewing accomplishments.
Although the in-home sewing machine may be past its heyday, home seamstresses across the country have continued sewing caps and masks for health care workers nationwide.
